The Students’ Association is an organisation run by students, for students and is completely independent of the University. We employ professional Advocacy Officers who give free advice and assistance to students on a completely confidential basis.

You may find yourself having problems with enrolment, processes, special consideration, complaints about marks or teaching, subject review appeals, exclusion or misconduct. University can sometimes be hard to navigate, especially if you have just begun your time here. The Students’ Association Advocacy Officers are here to help you and are able to liaise with professional staff from the Student Services Unit and the International Office and can refer students to other support services within the University including the Student Ombuds Office where appropriate. Advocacy Officers also tackle broader and systemic issues with the University on the behalf of all students.

Are you having problems with your course? Not getting your assignments back? Not getting assessment feedback? Gotten into trouble? Don’t understand how things work? Want to appeal your mark? Been charged with misconduct? Want to appeal an exclusion notice? Or got an unfair Peer Review?

Then come down to the Students’ Association now! Don’t put off talking with us until it is too late. If you notice a problem or have a query, drop in to the office or give us a call as soon as you can.

To see a completely free and confidential Students’ Association Advocacy Officer please drop in or call to make an appointment.

Misconduct

If you have had allegations of misconduct made against you, we can advise you on your rights and give you information about the university’s procedures. If you wish, we can also attend any necessary meetings with you.

Unfair Marking

If you think a mistake has been made with your final grade/marks or you are otherwise unhappy with the final mark for a subject, you can come and see us and we can help you find the right person to talk to.

Caution and Exclusion

Undergraduate students must pass at least 50% of the subjects they enrol in over their entire course. If you don’t pass at least 50% of your subjects in your first semester you can be placed on Academic Caution for a year.If you face exclusion you can come and see us and we can explain the process and what you need to do. We can also help you put together your appeal.

Special Consideration

If something’s gone wrong, you can count on us. We can help point you in the right direction of what you need to do and how to do it.

Complaints

If you have a complaint about a subject, tutor, lecturer or the University we can explain the relevant procedures, talk about options available to you and suggest relevant people within the university who you could speak with about the matter. We can also attend meetings with you, and talk with key parties on your behalf.

Enrolment

Many students find the admissions and enrolment process hard to understand, especially when you need to vary your enrolment. We can give you information about requirements and processes and point you in the right direction of who to talk to and what to do.
